movies:
about a boy (2002)
amelie (2001)
breakfast club (1985)
common themes:
isolation
discovering that you can find your people anywhere
& no man is an island :)
favorite quotes:
And there I was killing them softly with my song. Or rather being killed. And not so softly either.
At least you'll never be a vegetable - even artichokes have hearts.
Screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place.
the one i recommend the very most:
why are you making me choose? impossible, i tell you!
my thoughts:
'about a boy' is hugh grants best role
(besides 'love actually', which i might get to watch around christmas!
oh joy!
oh! & 'notting hill'...
wow he had a pretty good run for a while there)
& it is just so heart swelling!
i love that it ends up not being about romantic love but
about finding your people, the family that you choose.
it's also one of my very best friends favorite movies
& so i get to think about rachael every time i watch it :)
i just love it!
in all honesty i don't own 'amelie'
but i have had it so long (borrowed from my friend, maryn, thank you dear!)
it might as well be mine :)
& it fits perfectly in with the A's so i decided to include it.
honestly (again) i really don't love subtitles
that's why it took me so long to watch...
i like to do other things while i watch movies
or at least have the option to do other things
& with subtitles there is no option.
but i chose a night when brian was at a UofO football game
(go ducks!)
& the kids were in bed
& i watched it
& of course i fell completely in love.
cutest girl ever.
such a sweet story
& just visually gorgeous!
so glad i finally got to see it...
so you want me to say something about 'the breakfast club' huh?
(i know, this is a blog & you have no say whatsoever about what i write
but sometimes i like to pretend you are here,
begging me to say something about 'the breakfast club'
& so i shall...
oh, & could you grab me a cookie when you go downstairs?
thanks! i love having you here...)
i'm not exactly sure when i first saw this,
i was in 4th grade when it came out
& my parents made us fast forward through the sex scene in 'top gun'
every time we watched it
(not a great first impression of sex, i must say)
so i'm pretty sure i wouldn't have seen it then...
maybe late high school or college?
well, whenever it was i fell instantly in love...
i feel like every line of this movie is repeatable
(not in mixed company or around your kids, maybe,
but in the right setting, every single line is awesome)
everyone in it was great then & all still are, acting & doing stuff all over the place.
i could watch it 100 times (& might be almost there)
& not get tired of seeing them running down the halls
& dancing & laughing together...
i think my favorite part is when bender is getting yelled at &
everyone starts kind-of coming to his defense.
or at least trying to keep him out of trouble.
i think that's when it started to click...
& i love this part:
John: What's that?
Claire : Sushi.
John : Sushi?
Claire : Rice, raw fish, and seaweed.
John : You won't accept a guy's tongue in your mouth, and you're going to eat that?
Claire : Can I eat?
John : I don't know. Give it a try.
goes without saying (but of course i still will)
that it's one of the best 80's movies ever
up next:
another B & some D's (no C's hmmmmm)
hint:
i'm one stomach flu away from my goal weight
