using my 5 senses (plus one) this autumn...
seeing... well, leaves, of course. beautiful, lovely, colorful, find them on your windshield & try to keep driving while looking around them because you don't want to squish them with your wipers LEAVES!. every time i see a big clump i want to take a picture 'THIS will capture how these leaves feel!', i think. & my pictures just never do. my friend, christina, posted some amazing pictures of leaves on facebook this week & if i planned further than 20 minutes in advance for a blog post i would have asked her permission to post one here. but just take my word for it. she captured them. so perfectly.
smelling....pumpkin candles! oh my goodness! nothing says fall to me more than pumpkin pie scented candles (nope, not even salted caramel hot chocolate, but it's a close second). i have never baked a pie in my life (oh, maybe i did one of those pudding ones once?) but the minute it seems fally enough, out come the candles. my favorites are from Target. they always have some with cute labels & strong enough scents. oh & because i only ever shop at target.
hearing...podcasts, podcasts, podcasts! my dad gave me his old iphone (score! thanks, dad!) & because i couldn't remember anything about the itunes account that we have all of our music on (username? nope. password? nope. anything about anything? nope.) i started my own but then realized, oops, that means i have to buy all of the music i like again*. not happening. so podcasts it is!
my favorites are:
Slate's Culture Gabfest (heady at times, but always funny)
Filmspotting (love my movie guys!)
Satellite Sisters (5 sisters talking about everything. just fun.)
NPR Fresh Air (on podcast you can just choose the segments you want to listen to & avoid ones like 'Insurgent Wing Grapples For Control Of The GOP'. not judging if that's what you want to listen to while grocery shopping, i'm just more of a 'Stephen Colbert: In Good Company On Broadway' girl myself)
*i'm sure there is a way to figure this out, i am just too busy pinning pictures of christmas trees made of old books to do it

tasting...
halloween candy.
still.
halloween candy.
still.
feeling...5 pounds lighter! not because i have been exercising or eating right (silly!) but because i got my cast off! i generally try to see the bright side on things (at least i think i do, the moment i wrote that i was picturing someone saying 'she is the biggest complainer around!') but that cast? there was almost nothing good about it (i mean, besides the fact that it was hopefully healing my foot so that i can walk pain free at some point in my life. but besides that!) i had to take the stairs one at a time. one. at. a. time. one......at.....a......time....... & if you think reading that was annoying, try taking the stairs one at a time. also, a few people said 'at least you don't have to have it in the summer!' & i agreed 'yes, that is a huge blessing!' until rain. wet, sopping, squishy cast. pouring tons of baby powder in it just to see if it might soak up a tiny bit of the moisture. & then realizing that yes, it may have soaked up a bit, but now you have a paper mache' project inside your cast. also, mold. are you gagging yet?
my cast is off!
my cast is off!
pinning (it is the 6th sense...mine at least)... so many cute christmas tree alternatives! we're not replacing our tree (brian mentioned maybe buying an artificial one to use year after year & the rest of us (including the dog) looked at him like he just suggested that we throw away all of that halloween candy that we still have left instead of keeping it until we find candy corn inside a shoe in april (happened)). no we'll still be 'chopping down', but i love all of the ingenious ways to make that triangle shape look fresh!
happy fall to y'all
(did i just make that up??
it's so cute!
oh, i know, i saw it on pinterest.

sense of wonder is a blog series that i do very sporadically (it's all part of the plan!). i remember & list the things going on at certain times according to the sense of sight, smell, touch, sound, taste (& often a bonus made-up sense that i fully believe in).
why would a person do this? you may ask.
because it's fun & because they can, one might answer :)
