another pile o' good, bad, love & learning!
here are my personal favorite parts...
& all that came with it,
including planning a party,
my most favorite friends coming,
& most of all, not dreading getting older.
Bonus: Celebrating some of my other fave 40's, too! Celebrating with Gwen at the vineyard, with Ben at an awesome international costume party, with Maryn at a lovely dinner & movie. & with all of the others as they celebrated 40 however they wanted to. It's good to be 40!
My heart was full to bursting with ideas & plans & it still is!
GoMomGo: I got to add some fun friends to the mix & saw so much growth thanks to the awesome talents they bring with them each week. Christy's forward thinking & willingness to try new stuff (& teach me new stuff) has been amazing. Megan's adventurous & real voice have added so much to this fun community. It's exactly what I wished for & I'm excited to watch it grow!
old school eugene: It's a wonderful & heart crushing experience, this letting your dream out into the world. So full of What Ifs & I Hopes & Maybe Nots & This is Its! People & places & ideas come & go & I trust that it's as it should be. The excitement I feel has never wavered. Through it all I know that if I keep working & doing & trusting & praying & listening we will land where we are supposed to be. I believe it. The reason I get to keep it up & not drown in the unknowing is because I have such great, talented, patient girls doing it with me. We did two super fun events this year, Junk in the Trunk & Creative Wonderland. The events were so great but seeing them both do what they do was the best part. The 21st century philosopher Kanye West once said "I hire the people who are most awesome at their job & they make me look awesome." I feel this so deeply about Dana & Laurie. Not that they make me look awesome, but that they are the most awesome at what they do. & then I look awesome for holding on to them :) We're heading toward something & I'm all ready!
No matter where or when or what or how (sometimes the hardest part!), always so great!
This guy makes me laugh & think & see the world differently. I value his thoughts on life & relationships & love getting to just be goofy with him.
16 years is no joke.
Good, good stuff.
'Wait! I don't want to forget my book!'
One of the best phrases ever spoken.
I mean, we were crazy already but Mr. Hiesman kind of put us over the top :)
Because Brian has a very generous family in his class this year we got to see Marcus play his last game at Autzen & it was so fun.
The Duck love was thick that day!
Tomorrow is the Rose Bowl & we'll see what happens...
Through it all we will never stop the refrain, like a heart beat:
I LOVE MY DUCKS
I LOVE MY DUCKS
I LOVE MY DUCKS
Jesus. Girls. Marcus Mariota. :)
It's not like I had any say over it in the past anyway.
I just reserved the right to be annoyed about it.
Not letting the frustration get to me was & is the goal.
(My most repeated thoughts in 2014 might have been
'But I just don't get it. Why did they do that? Why do they keep doing that?').
I tend to go over it all in my head:
Why they were wrong & I was right
Why I was wrong & they were right
Why are they are acting like nothing happened?
Why can't I act like nothing happened?
Why did I do that?
Why did they do that?
Why are they acting like being mean & couching it as nice is a good choice?
Why do I think being mean & couching it as nice is a good choice?
& my stomach goes in knots & social media makes it so you run into each other with no warning.
There's enough good stuff in the world to care about.
There's enough great people to my spend time & my thoughts on.
There's enough grace & mercy to cover me & my hurts.
& there's enough grace & mercy to cover them & their hurts.
Enough is enough.
& however you want to read that is good enough for me :)
There's 2014 for me!
It was a good one, I say.
On to 2015 & all the possibilities!
